Mario Lombardo (b. 1972) is an Argentine graphic designer with a rich career and a distinctive approach to visual communication. After his family emigrated to Germany in 1978, he grew up in Aachen and later studied graphic design at the city’s Technical University.
He began his career as art director of Spex magazine in Cologne, and later moved to Berlin, where he founded his own studio with a focus on editorial design. His work is deeply influenced by his personal history and themes of belonging and identity. He has taught typography at the Zurich University of the Arts and has received numerous prestigious awards, including recognition from the Type Directors Club, the Art Directors Club, and the Lead Awards.
The theme of “home” holds a special place in his work. On his first return to Argentina, while still at the airport, the familiar scent of linden and palo borracho trees instantly brought back memories of childhood. In that moment he realized that scents have the power to create a sense of belonging and unlock emotions. Inspired by this experience, years later he founded his own perfume brand - Atelier OBLIQUE - for which he also created the entire visual identity.
