Kirsten Algera & Ernst van der Hoeven

Kirsten Algera and Ernst van der Hoeven are Dutch art historians and designers, founding editors and art directors of MacGuffin (2015), a much awarded biannual design and crafts magazine, and platform featuring fabulous stories about the life of ordinary things. With each edition based around a single object, MacGuffin magazine uncovers the personal and sometimes curious relationships we have with objects that surround us.

Kirsten Algera is a writer, curator and design historian. She has lectured design research at international design schools like the University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU), the Design Academy Eindhoven and ECAL in Lausanne. Other projects include exhibitions, installations, public programs and workshops developed in partnership with institutions such as Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, the Istanbul Design Biennial, the Guangzhou Triennial and Disarming Design from Palestine.

Ernst van der Hoeven (1965) is an art historian, landscape artist and publisher. In 2002 he established EVDH, a studio for the urban landscape. With his Amsterdam based studio he designs landscapes, curates exhibitions and makes works of art. In 2008 he co-founded the indie-zine Club Donny a journal on the personal experience of nature in an urban environment. He lectrures at The Academy of Architecture, The Gerrit Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam), the Design Academy (Eindhoven), ÉCAL University of Arts and Design (Lausanne) and HFG University of Arts and Design (Karlsruhe).

Kirsten Algera and Ernst van der Hoeven are guest speakers at the International Melba Symposium thanks to the partnership with MAHALA bookstore.
