David Joyce is a graphic designer, educator and director of Language, a design studio based in Dublin that creates visual identities and campaigns for cultural institutions, socially engaged organisations and the non-profit sector. The studio’s projects include the Yes Equality and Together for Yes campaigns, which have become landmark examples of socially engaged graphic design in Ireland.
Alongside this he runs The Outside Press, a project that explores the book as a space for experimentation, collaboration and the exchange of ideas. Working primarily with manual and analogue making methods, he creates publications in partnership with artists, writers and designers with particular attention to the process of making and the materiality of the book.
Joyce teaches at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin, where he works with students on projects related to language, identity and the role of design in contemporary culture. The book remains a central focus of his work – as an object, a process and a meeting point for different authors, ideas and practices.
*David Joyce’s participation is supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Bulgaria.
