This is an exhibition with posters from the archive of AndNowEast - a festival and cultural platform dedicated to visual culture and contemporary graphic design in Eastern Europe. Founded by the Bucharest-based initiative Local Design Circle, the project explores how the poster can serve simultaneously as a form of communication, social commentary, and artistic expression.
The posters presented in Sofia are part of the AndNowEast portfolio, collected since 2021. For the specific context of the metro space, 48 posters have been selected that reinterpret the visual language of Eastern Europe. The exhibition &NOWEAST, part of the international Melba Festival and the Design Initiatives in the City program, brings this selection into the urban environment — between analog and digital, local and universal. It affirms the poster as a living medium, where the image becomes a field for dialogue, shared experience, and new readings of our common present.
At the heart of the initiative lies the ambition to reveal the richness and diversity of the Eastern European visual scene — a space where tradition, irony, and experimentation intertwine. The participants in the project share their visual narratives about identity, belonging, memory, and transformation, turning the poster into a mirror of the region’s cultural tensions and hopes.
